ADVANCED ETHICS - THERAPISTS ENTERING THE LEGAL WORLD
A. OVERVIEW: Most counsellors never expect to interact with the legal system—until they receive a subpoena, a court order, or a request for a client's file. This advanced specialty ethics module explores practical approaches to navigating these situations while balancing client confidentiality, professional responsibilities, and ethical decision-making. This training is not intended for expert witnesses or for professionals who must present formal assessments in court.
We'll discuss examples from counselling practice, explore different perspectives, and examine the reasoning for responding to requests for client information and involvement with the legal system. This specialty module was developed by Dr. Dawn McBride and may be presented by Dawn, members of the Dawn Psychological Services training team, or both.
